Announcement by the SVHS Principal made to SVHS Office Staff at 3:40 p.m. with the permission of Gary Adkins, Superintendent of Wayne County Schools:


"I have received a phone call from Mr. Adkins, the Superintendent of Schools. Mr. Adkins says that, and I wrote it down so I would be sure, Mr. Thompson has agreed to relinquish his position at Spring Valley High School because of the compassion he has for the students, staff and the community."


Hmmm. Feels like ..........DEJA VU.
What month is this? Is it April? May?
No termination? No resignation?
Relinquish? Verbally Relinquish?
Right.

Relinquish equals "BAD PENNY" Syndrome. Where will Mr. Todd Thompson turn up 5 months from now? 5 weeks, 5 days from now? Back at Spring Valley? Been there. Done that.

Maybe Wayne Middle. There's a vacancy there - he could use the suspended guy's computer.

How about Tolsia? Let's see. Yes. Looks good. Spring Valley definitely not the only school in Wayne County with teacher troubles. Mr. Thompson could pop up there, sent by the Superintendent, even if he's terminated. Is this the only school in the state of West Virginia where you can terminate a teacher (which revokes his license to teach), then re-hire him as a substitute on the same night, same Board Meeting (Joshua Wellman, English 9 -12, Tolsia High, Recommended Personnel Matters, Board Approved, Date: September 2, 2008, Gary L. Adkins, Superintendent)? Is this legal? Some interesting public documents there.


Is there any doubt that Mr. Todd Thompson will pop up somewhere else? Courtesy of our Superintendent of Schools. And evidently our Board. He was a librarian before his Spring Valley job. Can you imagine him back at a school as the librarian? The Superintendent might decide elementary schools finally get that full-time, paid librarian/sysop they've been asking for every year. Or at least one elementary school might get one special someone.


Extra Info: The Tolsia story actually gets better: The Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Adkins, sent the terminated English teacher right back to the same school he was terminated from. Next day. Personally appointed. Not even sent to a different school. Evidently quite a surprise to those at Tolsia. Everyone knew he had been fired. Someone had already been hired for his old job and was occupying his old classroom, teaching English since the first day of school. No additional English teachers required or needed. Usually that just means they'll create a fake job, then appoint the favored person. Then the Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Rutherford, is available for the on-the-scene cover-ups, as needed or take the ensuing complaints by phone. This particular situation seems to be a work-in-progress. Didn't even create the fake job before they sent him. Getting sloppy. No job specs. No job bid, posted within the required amount of time. But he's still back. Among the students. That he was removed from. Teaching. Or at least there. Getting paid. But definitely with a revoked certificate. Or maybe he's a new "Literacy Coach", paid out of the Title I Slush Fund. That would be better. He wouldn't even have to show up at the school. He could join all those other phantom employees listed at the schools, diluting the teacher-student ratio on all those official reports.


Where-O-Where is the WVDE when you need them? OEPA?
WVBOE? Anybody.
ANYBODY OUT THERE ???

Is it any wonder why students are afraid to speak up about a Wayne County School employee?

Do we not teach our children - TELL, TELL, TELL - no matter what TELL??

Should we change that? Except at school? Except in Wayne County?

Not hardly. It's time to TELL. TELL EVERYTHING.

you should send this letter to wsaz to show them what was going on in s.v.h.s. he was a threat to all of our children what if he had brought a gun to school while on his PRESCRIPTION meds. what if he had started shooting after all of this had been out in the open. all of the teachers was scared of him and it took this long to take care of it we nees new board members.

School ends at 3:15 the staff have left at 3:30. What staff did the principal make this announcement to? Here again another sign of the cowardice of Gary Adkins. He makes a phone call with a message he knows no one will get it thus avoiding any admitance of guilt. He is a coward and a bully. He needs to go. Gary Akdins has put the children of Wayne County at risk. Mr. Todd Thompson is a danger to others ESPECIALLY children. He can't be around high school students he definately should not be around younger children. I also fear he will be at the board. That seems more of an award than a punishment. He should be terminated period. End of discussion.

i really think todd thompson is just a cute humble man with little problems and people need to get off of his case. His finger accidentally took pictures of younger kids, big whoop.

How much do you want to bet that he isn't losing a day of pay??? Todd Thompson will continue to be on Administrative Leave -- could someone please request that the financial records be made public? You are correct Mrs. Rucker -- he should be terminated.

Local newspapers and TV stations have been notified and have this website's address also. Everyone was and is scared. Students, teachers, parents, everybody in the school building. There's a huge question mark there about mental stability combined with legal or non-legal drugs. And even after he was gone last year, from April 2nd on, they would not change the locks or the teacher's keypad to keep him out. Everyone was still scared even when he was gone. We kept hoping but we knew he would be back. I think I agree with your comment about our Board Members. Of course, we just got 1 new one. That leaves four old members.

He is definitely not gone for good if they don't terminate him. And since the Superintendent put a terminated teacher back at Tolsia just last month, we may not be safe even then. Unless they terminate the Superintendent.

You are RightRightRight about the keys. And he has a brother who has keys. Not good.

I thought the timing of the call late Friday afternoon was interesting, too. At one point last year we would have been relieved to have them stick him at the Board Office and have him work on their computers and see how they like it. Really. That's what the girl that went with me to the very last meeting (Exec Session,Board of Ed Meeting, 6/02/08) said to them. They spluttered around and started talking about his rights. He has a right to work at Spring Valley. Blah Blah. We can't terminate him for this. Or this. Or this. It is always strange to watch grown men lie, even about little things, and so much, they can't even remember what story they laid down before. And me sitting there with a folder full of case law and grievance board decisions on terminations for the same behaviors. Essentially, it ended with the Board wouldn't vote to terminate because the Superintendent wouldn't recommend termination because the Assistant Superintendent and the Technology Director and the Lawyer (not hired-employee of the BOE) wouldn't recommend termination. There's a set of dominoes for ya. I'm sorry, that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. But you are right. Lots of people have been awarded a job at Central Office for interesting reasons. Still, it is not safe to even have him at the Board Office. He would be in proximity to Student and Employee records out there AND I have friends that work out there and I don't want them in danger either.(probably shouldn't have said that-I'll get them or their kids or their whoever fired or demoted)

I hope the #5 comment is a joke/sarcasic remark. Mr. Thompson's attitude through all this, and indeed back to his Middle School days, definitely could not be described as humble.
As for his problems, they are many, and I think people mostly leave other people alone, except when someone's deliberate actions bring attention upon themselves, particularly over the last year, when it appeared that attention was desired. His picture-taking was certainly not accidental, certainly didn't happen just once, and you are talking to a Mom here, you bet it's a Big Whoop.

Oh yes. I think we have paid and paid. I think sick leave records have been altered. More than once. Not too long ago they were passing around the announcement about the sick leave bank where employees donate sick leave to someone who needs it. Why? We have magic administrative leave passed out as a gift. How many people in this county have had some disaster or tragedy in their life and run out of leave. Then on top of those problem, they now have financial problems. Or go back to work before they should. Where was that magic administrative leave for everybody else? (I'm not saying the sick-leave bank is a bad idea-it's not-it's a good idea. Just making a point) And funny you should mention financial records, I'm learning all about FOI requests today. Freedom of Information. I love living in the USA.
